The FCC has repealed Net Neutrality rules and regulations.
What is Net Neutrality?
Net Neutrality is the internet’s basic principle: It preserves our right to communicate freely online. It creates an open internet that enables and protects free speech. It outlines the basic principle that Internet Service Providers (ISP’s) like Comcast, AT&T and Verizon should not block or discriminate against any content on the open internet over their networks. Just like your phone company should not dictate who you can call and what you say, your IPS should not interfere with the content you view or post online.
We lost Net Neutrality – Now What?
The internet has changed completely.
The internet has been paving the way for innovation and a network that has historically given people the freedom to give their own opinions on any subject will be more harshly regulated now. The internet is not dead, but the big ISP companies now have the ability to throttle certain sites to make them go slower of faster. These companies are able to control who is being heard and who isn’t.
Why is Net Neutrality crucial for small business?
Net Neutrality is crucial for small businesses because it gives entrepreneurs, business owners and startups the opportunity launch their business, create markets and advertise their products or services to reach customers. Businesses need a free and open internet to foster job growth, competition and innovation. Net neutrality lowers the barriers to entry allowing virtually anyone to have a fair and level playing field in the business world. Now that this has been overturned, there is no telling what it will do to our U.S. economy.
We think repealing Net Neutrality will have a massive impact on business and change the landscape of opportunity forever. Let us know your thoughts about the recently repealed Net Neutrality rules in the comments.
